Hidden Treasures: Campitello | Pra Molin | Val Duron
Tuesday 15th August 2017
3.5 hour walk
Medium difficulty
You will leave from Campitello along Strèda da Col de Faé and go straight uphill taking the path that brings you towards “Crousc”. After a few minutes you will find yourself in a pleasant and tranquil area with traditional “baita” huts and open fields.
Following the path and the signs for Val Duron walk uphill through the woods, under the mountain Ponjin. In this particular part, as only very few excursionists follow this trail; it is likely that you will encounter some of our wild animals, such as venison, foxes and squirrels.
After about 1 and a half hours of steady paced walking you will reach the top of the path, where the flora changes considerably. In this part the path becomes flat and between the many trees “cirmoli” (Pinus cembra), you will find a vast expanse of “Adenostyles alliariae” with their huge leaves and small violet flowers. This plant attracts many butterflies and sometimes there are so many flying around that the forest feels truly magical.
In some parts the forest thins away offering wonderful scenery over the majestic group of the Sassolungo Mountains.
At a certain point you will come across a path that turns left, sign-posted towards Pra Molin. After about 10 minutes of hiking you will find yourself emerging from the woods at a reasonably high altitude where between “cirmoli” and old mountain huts, there is a beautiful view over the Sella Mountains.
Once you have enjoyed the landscape you may return by the same path and descend towards Val Duron. Once out of the forest, in a pasture called Ciampié you may take the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful picnic/lunch-break, as there are benches and a large table with canopy provided.
From this point you continue on to rifugio Micheluzzi and then along the forest road all the way back to Campitello.
Disclaimer: Our trek was done in August, the many butterflies might not be there during other times.
